Research Abstract

20世紀の「エレクトロニクスの時代」から今21世紀は「光(フォトニクス)の時代」と言われている。その中枢を担うのが非線形光学効果である。大容量高速光通信や光コンピュータや光スイッチにとって、大きな非線形光学効果を、持つ化合物の開発は必須である。これまでの研究からナノワイヤー(量子細線)が量子閉じこめ効果のために大きな非線形光学効果を持つと言われていた。ナノワイヤーのうちで「バンド絶縁体」や「パイエルス絶縁体」に関する研究は非常に多かったが、強相関電子系の「モット絶縁体」に関する研究は皆無であった。我々は強相関電子計のモット絶縁体の一種である[Ni(chxn)_2Br]Br_2の三次非線形光学効果について電場変調法により求め、世界最高の値を持つことを示した(〜10^<-4> esu)。本研究においては電荷移動吸収帯を通信波長帯領域に持っていくことを目的に物質開発を行った。そのためにNiとPdの混晶系の作成を行った。[Ni(chxn)_2Br_2]と[Pd(chxn)_2]Br_2をいろいろな比率で混ぜたメタノール溶液を電解法で酸化したところ一連のNi-Pd混晶Ni_<1-x>Pd_x(chxn)_2X_3を単結晶で得ることに成功した。これを用いて電場変調法により三次非線形光学効果について測定する予定である。
