Research Abstract |
THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO IMPROVE THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF THE COLD-STORAGE ATTAINED CURRENTLY BY ICE-STORAGE SYSTEMS. THE IDEA IS TO USE A CLATHRATE HYDRATE COMPOUND THAT CHANGES ITS PHASE FROM LIQUID TO SOLID AT A TEMPERATURE HIGHER THAN 0 DEGREE. THE SUBSTANCE SELECTED IN THIS RESEARCH IS TETRA-N-BUTYLAMMONIUM BROMIDE (HEREAFTER "TBAB" ). WHEN THE AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF TBAB WITH A MASS CONCENTRATION BETWEEN 0〜40 % IS COOLED, CRYSTALS OF CLATHRATE HYDRATE ARE FORMED AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 0〜12 DEGREE. THE DEPENDENCE OF THE PHASE-CHANGE TEMPERATURE AND THE LATENT HEAT OF PHASE CHANGE UPON THE MASS CONCENTRATION WERE OBTAINE USING A DIFFERENTIAL SCANNING CALORIMETER. AT THE SAME TIME, THE FRACTIONS OF SOLID AND LIQUID PHASES AFTER THE HYDRATE FORMATION AND THE REFRACTIVE INDICES WERE MEASURED. IN ADDITION, MORPHOLOGY OF THE HYDRATE CRYSTALS WERE OBSERVED THROUGH A HIGH-MAGNIFICATION MICROSCOPE, REVEALING THAT THE TYPICAL SHAPE OF THE CRYSTALS IS CYLINDRICAL.
