Research Abstract |
We designed lightweight, compact size and high quality motorized wheelchair. New wheelchair has six-wheel, part time 4-wheel-drivc mechanism and equipped nickel-hydrogen battery. 6W-NProto can carry using compact-size automobile. Comparison test of 6W-NProto and Yamaha JW-3, which is original model of the 6W-NProto, were performed and 6W-NProto showed good driving performance in every snowfall conditions. Specification of the new 6-wheel motorized wheelchair (6W-NProto) : Weight 48.5 kg ; Front free-caster, center-wheel drive, rear-wheel sub-drive ; Wheel-base 4.60mm/310mm [front-center/center-rear] ; Tire size 150mm/350mm/200mm [front/center/rear, diameter] ; Power 90x2W/70x2W [main/sub] ; Power/weight ratio 6.6 W/kg ; Battery Nickel-Hydrogen Battery x3 ; Max velocity 6 km/h. Seating system is adjustable for every physically handicapped person and create stable seating circumstances. Frame structure is flexible to follow the every terrain condition. Comparison test between 6W-NProto and Yamaha JW-3 : The driving performance in different snowfall conditions on level and ramp roads, and on steps was tested. Compared with the Yamaha JW-3, the 6W-NProto performed better driving performance in all terrain conditions due to a high power/weight ratio and 4-wheei-drive. The 6W-NProto, which equipped assisted rear-wheel drive, was able to clear 120 mm step. Even on slushy roads, the most difficult conditions for powered wheelchair, the most controllable wheelchair was the 6W-Nproto. In conclusion, 6W-Nproto showed the best driving performance in all snowfall conditions and steps.
