Research Abstract |
A renovative Interactive Learning Environment for Nursing Research Methodology (mainly on quantitative studies) was developed in Japan. Determination of the contents of nursing research methodology was based on the software developed by W.L. Holzemer et al. after acquiring the permission of usage. Statistical support systems of the writer's own development were integrated to fully organize the content structure. Edu-Cartridge Data System, developed by Media Five Corporation was used as an authoring system. Having a theoretical basis on the study of ergonomics, the system functions as an effective tool for assisting in knowledge acquisition, in the selection and organization of important items, in the consolidation of acquired knowledge through skill training, and in the evaluation of learner's achievements through a personal computer. This tool promotes enthusiastic learning at the learner's preferred time, place and pace of learning. Basically the system is composed of an electronic t

ext, an electronic wordbook and an electronic workbook. Four methods for learning are available for users; a navigation mode which assists all-round learning in accordance with each learner's level of comprehension; a training mode in which the priority is on the learner's weak points; a game mode which facilitates essential terminology acquisition in an amusing manner in a game form; an edit mode with which learners can develop their own textbook editing the original contents. Additionally, the system is equipped with such select functions as automatic compiling of problems to be solved, information retrieval, and printout of the displayed material. The outstanding characteristics of the newly developed software include the following; (1) The fist self-learning, highly instructive and amusing software developed in nursing research area in Japan. (2) Instant evaluation of the learner's level of comprehension, enabling step by step learning in accordance with the individual achievement level. Less
