Research Abstract |
For judgment of brain death based on EEG, it is required to confirm that the EEG of the subject is flat to conclude brain death. In the flat EEG examination, the contamination from ECG(signal from heart beat) and environment makes the judgment difficult. The present research showed that the signal processing method based on independent component analysis(ICA) can effectively remove such contamination from the EEG of the subject with presumed brain death. Furthermore, the present study suggested that the methods of time series analysis based on the theory of chaos can be used to confirm that the residual EEG signals after ICA processing are not vital signs. Among methods of chaotic time series analysis, the Wayland test can judge the residual EEG signals robustly Also the software for analyzing EEG for judgment of brain death using ICA and time series analysis is developed. The software is equipped with GUl and aimed at use in practical judgment of brain death.
