Research Abstract |
To reveal the carciogenesis of oral cancer, we carried out the molecular etiological analysis in Sri-Lanka using cancer tissues, precancerous tissues and blood DNA materials. #1 : As a result of p53 mutation analysis of oral cancer in betel quid chewers, we found out the very mutation accumulated in Exon 7. This type of mutatiton is not reported in developed countries. Otherwise, we could not found out this type mutation in precancerous legions including leukoplakia (Oncogene 1998, Int.J.Cancer 1999). These results suggested that repeating mutation of oral mucosa might be required to be cancer. #2 : To reveal the effects of genetic background on the carcinogenesis of oral cancer in betal quid chewers, we carried out the SNPs analysis using blood DNA of patients (sensitive group) and no patients (insensitive group). We found out that type of CYP2A6 and GST might play an important role a genetic background. These results suggested that analysis of SNPs might make possible to evaluate the cancer risks individually and provide the more effective cancer prevention.
