Research Abstract |
I.The following facts were revealed by the investigations of the catalogue of private library owned by the Kashiwabara family in the Edo era and the library of the Rakutoihokan : A.These books were collected not only by the Kashiwabara family, but also by the Kishibe family, the Naba family and the Yoshida family, all related to the Kashiwabara family by marriage. B.Members of the Kashiwabara family studied Waka and Kagakufirst and Kokugaku, Kangaku and Jitsugaku later. They were interested in theater arts, topography, and history all through the Meiji era. II.The following facts were revealed by the investigations of the Kagawa Kageki's letter preserved at the Rakutoihokan and Waka by Kashiwabara Shoujui in her own handwriting and related material : A.There were mainly two methods Kashiwabara Shoju studied Waka : she wrote draft poems and had her master corrected her poems, and she attended poem competition parties sponsored by her master. B.There is an abundance of material related to Waka by Kashiwabara Shoju in her own handwriting preserved at the Rakutoihokan. Based on her way of studying Waka, the material is divided into five groups : rough memoranda of poems, copies of poems for her teacher, memoranda of completed poems, a poetry notebook classified into 6 categories-spring, summer, autumn, winter, love, and miscellaneous subjects, and others. III.In the process of investigating the literary activity by the Kashiwabara family, it was established that Egaku, a priest of Bukkouji, introduced a poem master, Kagawa Kageki, to Kashiwabara Shoju. The implication of this will be discussed in the 2004-2007 study, "Formation and Development of Keien School and those concerned with the Bukkouji sect of the Shinshu."
