Research Abstract |
This two-year research project is concerned to the study of Yakut (or Saxa) epic poem, olongxo. In this period of the 2000- the 2001 fiscal years, we worked intensively on the olongxo text collected in the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and Russian Federation today, investigating how many texts are remained, how we can access them, how Yakut epics have been studied from the linguistic point of view, and so on. As the most important aim of our project is to compile the data of olongxo text and make the data easier to be available for linguistic research. In the first fiscal year of our project we visited St. Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of Russian Academy of Sciences, where the books, printed matters and researchers' manuscripts at the time of Russian Empire and afterwards are stored. Besides, we also visited the Library of Republic of Saxa to research the printed matters in Yakut language. We cooperate with researchers or the native speakers of Yakut language in Russia as well as Japan. Through the period of this project, we could collect newly printed matters published in Russia, especially in the Republic of Saxa on olongxo in Yakut languages and so on. The olongxo text itself is not so much published so far, but these newly collected materials will be also included in the further version of our collection of olongxo data. As the fruits of this projects are published in the form of articles, research papers, data and materials in general by the members of the project. In the near future we will publish a monograph on the linguistic research on Yakut epic olongxo.
