| Research Abstract |
From the standpoint that Islam and democracy are compatible, we have studied political change of the Islamic countries(Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia) in Asia. Concretely, we repeatedly have examined problems on from the compatible of islam and democracy to the democratization of the Islamic countries in Asia and military trend. As the result, next three points were clarified. (1) Recent years after the cold war, the flow of democratization also cause the Islamic countries in Asia large effect, and it is in the situation which cannot be disregarded in the system side either. (2) The increase of democratization has activated Islam resurgence and separate independence movement, regional strife, andin addition, the military rise has been caused. (3) The military also has changed in its nature because of the increase of the democratization and the globalization of the international opinion.
Musharaf military administration in Pakistan has secured the legitimacy because of domestic and foreign affairs (Afghanistan, Kashmir). However, still many nationas desire the transfer to the civil administration. After Wahid administration in Indonesia coliapsed, without also raising the result of this, Megawati administration holds still many problems in all planes of public peace and order and economies. But, it steadily goes through introducing the direct election by the nation from next presidential election, etc. on the democratization. After the simultaneous frequent occurrence terrorism of U.S.A.in Malaysia, the radical Islam political party(PAS) is avoided, and the support is returning to UMNO of Mahatir.
