Research Abstract |
1) Protective effect of GGA for ischemic insult We used gerbil forebrain ischemic model and rat focal ischemic model. Although several doses of GGA were introduced to the animals for two weeks before ischemia everyday intraperitoneally, neuronal damage in both global and focal ischemia were not decreased by GGA administration, compared to the control ones. Heat shock protein induction by GGA administration was not presented in gerbil brain. 2) Effect of Hypothermia on the protection for ischemic insult, HSP expression, immediately early gene expression and transcriptional activity As we could not detect the induction of HSP by the drug, we examined the relationship between protective effect of hypothermia for ischemia and HSP, IEG and AP-1 activity. The results demonstrated that hypothermia had protective effect for ischemia and the increase of Fos expression and AP-1 binding activity by hypothermia. It is suggested that not only HSP but also Fos and AP-1 may correlate to the protective effect of hypothermia for ischemic insults.
