Research Abstract

1. Analysis of respiratory mechanics by magnetic resonance imaging :
We investigated the relationship between the airway pressure and the distribution of inspiratory gas during partial liquid ventilation using magnetic resonance imaging technique. Partial liquid ventilation partially ameliorated distribution of inspiratory gas, although the alveoli in the dependent region were not completely aereated in severe lung injury.
2. Partial liquid ventilation partially improved alveolar fluid clearance after mechanical ventilation induced lung injury :
Protective effect of partial liquid ventilation on alveolar fluid clearance was investigated using rat mechanical ventilation induced lung injury model. In lung injury group (n=12), alveolar fluid clearance was significanltly decreased from those from control group(n=12). Partial liquid ventilqtion partially improved alveolar fluid clearance.
3. Partial liquid ventilation did not improved cytokine production in injured lung :
We also measured TNF-a, IL1-b, IL6 level in the lung homogenate after the experiment of alveolar fluid clearance. But there were no difference in these cytokine level between the lung injury animal and those ventilated with partial liquid ventilation.
In conclusion, partial liquid ventilation partially ameliorated.
