Research Abstract |
The purpose of this work is to study the characteristics of Fermi acceleration, which is one of the basic acceleration mechanisms of space and laboratory plasmas. The followings are the main results : (1) Construction of a laboratory system. Electrons moving along magnetic field lines are confined by two electrostatic potential walls and were accelerated by the oscillation of one of the two potential walls. The conditions for the laboratory system are the vacuum less than 1 × 10^(-4) Pa and the accuracy of the magnetic field alignment with the electron trap less than 5 × l0^(-3). (2) Observation of resonant frequency for the acceleration of electrons reflected by an oscillating electrostatic potential wall. When the potential wail oscillated with a characteristic frequency associated with the spatial structure of the potential wall, strong electron acceleration was observed. The characteristic frequency is then expressed by f_0= 2eV_0/(πmS^2) when the potential wall is given by V = -V_0 (x/s)^2 for x < 0 and V = 0 for x 【greater than or equal】 0.
