Outline of Annual Research Achievements

最近の研究から、熱帯の対流圏界面付近(UTLS: Upper Troposphere Lower Stratosphere)の温度構造に地球温暖化に起因する長期トレンドが現れていることが指摘された。ここで、微弱な長期トレンドのシグナルを精度よく検出するには他の変動要素の影響を予め除去する必要がある。これらには赤道域特有の擾乱現象として、積雲対流の不規則活動、赤道固有の大気波動(赤道ケルビン波など)、準2年周期変動(QBO: Quasi-Biennial Oscillation)、エルニーニョなどがあり、さらに火山噴火の影響も考慮する必要がある。
本研究では、定常気球観測データ、気象数値予報モデルを基にした再解析データ、及びGPS掩蔽データを活用して、熱帯のUTLSにおける温度構造の変動特性について、緯度・経度・高度、季節に対する統計解析を行った。その結果、2001-2011年におけるUTLSの温度変化について、経度依存性を調べた結果、東太平洋中心域で最大の温度上昇を示したが、南アメリカから大西洋にかけては逆に気温が約0.5度低下していた。それ以外では特に目立った気温変化は認められなかった。また、UTLS付近の温度構造には、北極域で早春期に起こる成層圏突然昇温の影響と中高緯度でのプラネタリー波の活動度とも相関があることを示した。
これらの研究成果をJpGU国際セッション(2014年4月28日~5月2日)とAOGS2014国際会議(2014年7月28日~8月2日)で発表した。また、昨年度、国際学術誌(JASTP)に投稿していた火山噴火の影響に関する論文が受理された。
