Outline of Annual Research Achievements

研究は当初の計画通り順調に遂行し、幾つかの当初予期していなかった成果も得られた。3種類の合金において、平均粒径1μm以下の完全再結晶超微細粒組織を得ることができた。それぞれの合金における最小平均粒径は、Cu-6.8Al合金で0.60μm、Fe-30Mn-3Al-3Si合金で0.6μm、Fe-22Mn-0.6C合金で0.5μmであった。特筆すべきはこれらがいずれも完全再結晶組織を有する点であり、このことにより、超微細粒合金は優れた強度と延性を両立して示した。また、Fe-22Mn-0.6C合金は炭素量が高く、高強度の反面加工性に乏しい合金として知られているが、これに対しても繰り返し加工熱処理法という新しいプロセスを考案することにより、上記の超微細粒バルク材を得ることに成功した。
超微細粒材を含む種々の平均粒径を有する3種の合金の室温引張試験を行い、強度・延性と粒径の関係を系統的に明らかにすることができた。いずれの合金も、粒径が1μm以下となっても均一伸びがほとんど減少せず、結晶粒超微細化による高強度と大きな延性を両立した優れた力学特性を実現することができた。種々のひずみ量まで引張試験を行った試料の変形下部組織をTEM観察し、変形組織として転位組織、積層欠陥組織、ナノ変形双晶の3種類が確認された。また、これらの変形機構の発現する段階が、結晶粒径を変化させることにより大きく変化することを初めて見出した。このことは、結晶粒超微細化によって低積層欠陥エネルギー合金の変形機構を制御し、ひいては強度と遠征を制御できることを示唆しており、基礎的観点のみならず、構造材料としての将来の実用化に対しても大変重要な知見である。
