Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、交接後に雄から渡された精子塊を雌が排除することが分かっているヒメイカにおいて、この行動が密かな雌の配偶者選択(Cryptic Female Choice : CFC)であるか検証し、その繁殖生態においてどのように影響を与えているかを調べると共に、本種におけるCFCと捕食リスクとの関係を明らかにすることでその進化過程を解明することを目的とする。
今年度は、本種の体サイズと捕食リスクへの影響について調査すると共に、捕食圧の異なる、長崎と隠岐の島個体群を使って捕食リスク条件下での繁殖行動への影響について実験を行った。
ヒメイカは交尾後の配偶者選択によって小型の雄が好まれることが分かっている。この原因として、一般的に繁殖行動は目立つ行為であり、捕食リスクが高い事が知られていることから、小さくて捕食者から目立たない個体の方の適応度が高く、雌に好まれることが考えられる。この仮説を検証するために、一つ目の実験では、捕食者であるアナハゼに体サイズの異なる2個体のヒメイカを提示して、60分間の間にどちらの個体を攻撃、捕食するか調べた。しかし、残念ながら小型個体の方が捕食を受けにくいという結果にはならず、サイズと捕食リスクの間に関係性は見られなかった。
次に、捕食圧の異なる個体群において、捕食者提示条件と非提示条件での繁殖行動に違いがあるのか実験を行った。捕食圧の高い隠岐の島個体群では交尾後の配偶者選択にかける時間が長く、逆に捕食圧の低い長崎個体群では交尾後では無く、交尾前の配偶者選択の時間が長い事が予想される。まず、下準備として野外でラインセンサスを行い、捕食圧の強度を調べた。その結果、予測通り隠岐の島個体群の方が圧倒的に肉食性魚類の密度が高い事が分かった。これを踏まえて、各地から採集したヒメイカを使い、実験を行った。この結果は現在解析中である。
