Outline of Annual Research Achievements

これまでの研究では、惑星形成の第一段階であるダストの合体成長過程に着目し、ダストの集合体であるダストアグリゲイトの内部密度進化を解き明かすことで、初めての一貫した惑星形成の第一段階の理論を作ることに成功した。本年度は、これまでの研究で明らかにした惑星形成理論を観測的に検証するための第一段階として、低密度アグリゲイトの光学特性を計算した。その結果、原始惑星系円盤の観測結果は従来コンパクトなダストと仮定して解釈されてきたが、低密度ダストアグリゲイトによっても同様の観測結果を再現できることを発見した。更に、従来考えられてきたコンパクトダストと今回新たに提案されている低密度アグリゲイトを区別する方法として、電波2波長を用いた連続波観測を提案した。これは、現在稼働中の電波望遠鏡ALMAによって達成可能な観測である。このような観測が達成されれば、我々の構築した惑星形成理論を観測的に裏付ける重要な証拠になるという点で重要な発見である(Kataoka et al., A&A, 568, A42, 2014)。また、本研究と並行し、原始惑星系円盤内でのダストの大きさを観測的に示す別の手法としてミリ波偏光観測によってダストサイズを制限することが可能であることを発見した。本研究では、大きなダストによって散乱光が強くなり、その散乱光の偏光成分を捉えることによってダストのサイズを制限できることを初めて示した。このような偏光メカニズムは、今までに検討されてこなかったミリ波偏光観測の解釈となり、今後の偏光観測の新たな可能性を提示したという点で重要である(論文投稿中)。更に、このような偏光観測からダストの散乱特性を導くことで、これまでの研究で示したアグリゲイトの低密度化の証拠にもつながると期待される。
