Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は次の3つの計画から構成されている．
計画1：過去のサンゴ礁生態系の復元（最終氷期以降のサンゴ礁試料を用いて，過去のサンゴ礁生態系を復元する．とくに，サンゴ礁生態系の成立維持に関わった重要な生物（以下，鍵種）を発見する．）.計画2：現在のサンゴ礁生態系の評価（過去100年間を対象に，地球温暖化と人為影響を受けたサンゴ礁生態系の現状評価を行う．）.計画3：将来のサンゴ礁生態系の予測（将来の地球温暖化と人為影響下におけるサンゴ礁生態系の予測を行う．）.

・計画1の実施状況：南西太平洋におけるサンゴ礁生態系の鍵種発見についての成果を国際誌に公表した．また，西インド洋におけるサンゴ礁生態系の鍵種発見についての成果をまとめた．さらに，これまで進めてきた3つの海域（北西太平洋と南西太平洋，インド洋）の鍵種の生物地理が明らかとなったため，国際誌に投稿した．
・計画2の実施状況：沖縄県石垣島のサンゴ礁生態系を対象に現状評価を行なった．過去15年間のサンゴの被度の低下が，高水温と頻繁に来襲した台風による影響であることが明らかとなった．また，人間活動に伴う陸域からの赤土流出も影響していることも明らかとなった．この成果は国際誌に公表した．
・計画3の実施状況：琉球列島（沖縄本島と石垣島，久米島，奄美大島，徳之島）のサンゴ礁生態系を対象に将来予測をおこなった．石垣島を対象とした例では，将来の海面上昇と台風の強度の増大に注目したところ，鍵種が減少している西海岸では今後，サンゴ礁生態系の成立が困難になる可能性が高いことが明らかとなった．この成果は国際誌投稿に向けて準備中である．
