Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年度に行ったガンマ線と最高エネルギー宇宙線の関連に続き、同じく宇宙線二次中性粒子であるニュートリノと最高エネルギー宇宙線の関連をIceCubeによるニュートリノ検出に注目して研究した。その結果、IceCubeで検出されたPeV領域のエネルギーを持つニュートリノが光反応を通じて生成されたものだとすると、我々が知り得ている天体の中にこのPeVニュートリノと最高エネルギー宇宙線の起源を両立する天体はないということが明らかになった。この事実を通じて、PeVニュートリノの起源を決めることが、間接的に最高エネルギー宇宙線源をさらに制限することにつながることを示した。
1020eVにも達する最高エネルギー宇宙線では非等方性が注目されているが、少しエネルギーの低い1019eV領域の宇宙線到来方向分布が非常に高い精度で等方的であることはこれまで問題にされてこなかった。この高精度の等方性を実現するためには一つ一つの宇宙線源は暗くなければならない。これを数値計算を用いて定量的に考察したところ、1019eVの宇宙線の源は最高エネルギー領域の宇宙線源より見かけ上10倍以上多いことがわかり、この差は従来考えられてきた定常現象による宇宙線生成ではなく、爆発現象による宇宙線生成を考えたときに自然に説明できることを示した。一方で、最高エネルギー宇宙線の非等方性に注目することで、ハドロン相互作用モデルの不定性に起因する宇宙線組成の不定性の問題を比較的容易な宇宙磁場測定の問題に置き換えることに成功した。この研究により、近傍宇宙の磁場を将来観測で詳細に理解することで、500TeV衝突型粒子加速器が実現するまで解けないと考えられていた最高エネルギー宇宙線組成の問題を解決することができることを示した。
