Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究課題「窒素負荷に伴う樹木の窒素利用メカニズムの解明と窒素飽和進行地域の広域予測」では、森林生態系への窒素過剰供給が樹木の窒素吸収に与える影響を広域で明らかにするため、窒素負荷による樹木の無機態窒素吸収量の変化を窒素安定同位体比から明らかにすることを目的として研究を行ってきた。
本年度は、窒素負荷に伴う樹木の窒素吸収メカニズムの変化を解明するため、大気からの窒素降下量の違いが明らかになっている森林総合研究所の桂試験地(窒素降下量：年間7.5kgN/ha)、および筑波試験地(年間16.5kgN/ha)において、主要造林樹種であるスギや、林床によく見られるアオキを中心とした低木広葉樹種について、植物体及び土壌の窒素同位体比の比較から窒素源の推定を行った。その結果、樹木の窒素同位体比は、桂試験地では樹種により-10～0‰の違いがあったが、筑波試験地では、樹種に関らず土壌中の硝酸態窒素同位体比に近い-3～-1‰であった。窒素負荷が多い筑波試験地では、土壌中の硝酸態窒素のプールサイズが大きく、樹木の窒素源が樹種を通じて硝酸態窒素に変化した可能性が示唆された。これら窒素負荷による樹木の窒素吸収源の変化に関する知見は、窒素飽和メカニズムの解明に寄与するほか、長期的な森林動態予測につながるものである。
