Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度はテラヘルツ円偏光への応答を可能にする固有接合フォトニックデバイスの提案に向けて、高温超伝導体固有接合から放射されるテラヘルツ(THz)円偏光の特性を調べた。また、新たな固有接合フォトニックデバイスの提案を念頭に、鉄系超伝導体からなるジョセフソン接合の量子トンネル特性について調べた。
昨年度はメサ型固有接合における温度の不均一性に着目し、レーザー照射等を用いた局所加熱によってTHz 波放射強度を自在に制御できる事を明らかにした。まず、本年度はその成果を更に発展させ、局所加熱によるTHz 円偏光の発生と偏光特性の変化について調べた。申請者は正方形に近い長方形型メサ型固有接合に局所加熱を行う事で、THz 円偏光が放射される事を明らかにした。また、局所加熱の位置を変化させる事で、直線偏光から円偏光へと自在に制御可能である事を明らかにした。本研究ではこれまで困難であった THz 円偏光の発生とその制御技術を提案しており、THz 波工学分野において大変重要な成果である。
更に、本年度は近年新しい固有接合系として注目を集めている鉄系超伝導体に着目し、鉄系超伝導体からなるジョセフソン接合の巨視的量子トンネル現象を調べた。鉄系超伝導体は複数の超伝導ギャップが開く多ギャップ超伝導体として知られ、その多ギャップ性に由来する新奇な量子電磁場応答の発現が期待されている。申請者は異なるギャップ間に生じる位相差揺らぎであるレゲットモードの存在がトンネル率を著しく変化させる事を見出した。本研究の成果は新たな量子光デバイス研究に繋がる大変有意義な成果である。
