Research Abstract |
The outline of the research project for four years is as follows. (1)We held three international conferences. The first conference was the International Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology held at Hilo in Hawaii during 16^<th> and 19^<th> of July in 2001. The head investigator of the project was the representative from Japan side of the organizing committee. Almost all members of the project participated the conference and discussed on the dynamical systems theory in mathematical biology. The second meeting was Biomathematics Euro Summer School "Dynamical Systems in Physiology and Medicine" held at Urbino, Italy during 8^<th> and 19^<th> of July in 2002. The head investigator of the project was one of the organizing committee. The last conference was the International symposium on "Dynamical Systems Theory and Its Applications to Biology and Environmental Sciences" held at Hamamatsu Japan during 14^<th> and 17^<th> of March in 2004. More than 200 people including 50 people from oversea participated on the symposium. In particular, young Japanese researchers have attracted attention from many overseas researchers. Many joint researches were initiated from the symposium. Over 50 papers will be published from the international journals and two books summarized the state of the art of mathematical biology will be published from Springer. (2)We held 7 national meetings on the differential equations and its application to biology. (3)The 4 seminars were held to study new books or important classical books in mathematical biology in training camp form. Especially many students and young researchers participated the camp. (4)We have plans for international conference on dynamical systems theory in biology at Chongqing in 2006, in Hamamatsu and San Jose in 2007. The project has contributed to develop the dynamical systems theory research in the mathematical biology and promoted national and international joint researches.
