Research Abstract |
1, Our collaborative study group which is organized by Prof Yasu, addressed the systematic research into the structure and the logic of the German political theory in the 20th century which saw the tremendous political events like "the war and revolution". The purpose of our joint research is to find out the characteristic trends of the political dynamics in modern Germany by the elucidating of specific components of German political theory or political thought in which the radical political change from the authoritarian political system of German Empire to the democratic political system of Weimar Republic, and then with the assumption of the power of Nazi-party again to the worse totalitarian dictatorship and lastly after the Second World War to the liberal-democratic political system of Western Germany was reflected. 2, For two years from 2001 we had the common meeting for research seven times and the camps for exchanging of each member's study result twice. Using these meetings and

camps, firstly we did the comparative study of the contrasting historical process of advanced modern state like Britain, Prance and late-coming modern state like Germany Secondly we tried to understand that German political theorists mentioned above striven to solve theoretically the problems of modern state from the viewpoint of the late-coming modern state by the critical confrontation and the overcoming of the anglo-american political theory based on the theory of the social contracts and then had created the German specific political theory which placed much stress on the primacy of politics over the society. 3, "German Political Theory of the Twentieth Century", the annuals of the Japanese Political Science Association of 2002 which is published by the Iwanami Shoten, is the result of our joint studies. Our study-result seems to fill up the blanks of the systematic research into the German political theory of 20th century in Japan. And it also will be a framework to examination of the political theory of late-coming Japanese state. And we suppose that it will give a direction about where Japan should move to in 21th century.
