Research Abstract |
It is supported by some epiderniological studies that the incidence of infantile leukemia increased by exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs). We investigate whether the chromosome aberration can be induced by exposure to EMFs. New born rats and their astrocytes were exposed to 10mT (50Hz) of EMFs for 7 days. The frequency of micronuclei in newborn rats of exposure group increased significantly. But there is no difference by Ames tests. In order to make clear the influence of the workers in EMFs we made epidemiological studies. We did questionnaire survey to the workers(members of J S of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine) and controls. Response rates of the workers and controls were 28 % (864/3076) and 14% (172/1213). For sex distributions males were 705(88%) for the workers and 100(61%) for controls. Mean age and SD of the workers were 42.0 +/-7.9 for male and 38.3 +/-8.2 for female. And those of controls were 42.5 +/-11.8, 28.4+/-5.9 as follows. We surveyed 104 medical and 128 engineering students to know influences of cellular phone. Ownership rates of that were 98% for medical and 91% for engineering students. We surveyed if effects of cellular phone to health were shoulder discomfort, nausea, headache or auditory sense. And we surveyed components of blood and urine, time tables of daily life, monitoring of EMFs level of individuals in 5 days and EMFs level of work space of the main 8 workers. Sex of 8 workers was male only. Mean age and SD of the 8 workers were 34.8 +/-14.2. Main items of blood and urine tests were 17-KS, 17-OHCS, cortisol, melatonin, LDH, LDH-isozyme and so on.
