Research Abstract |
The ratio of "Intermarriages" have significantly increased recently; it has become 4.5 % by 2000, which was only 1 % in 1980. Interestingly, 70 % of those marriages are composed of Japanese men and foreign women. This tendency had already been regarded ackward especially in Tohoku area (Mogami, Yamagata Prefecture) by 1990's. This research verifies three points: 1. The mate-selection factor of social population in agrarian area. 2. The issue of "Intermarriage" in administrations. 3. The support and the issue for foreign-mates as citizens. First, there is a constant gap of unmarried population. While men are confronted by the "patriarchy", young women in 20's are likely to abandon the agrarian area. Administrations have tried to solve this issue, however, there are some criticism of privacy and some peculiar problems with mediators. Nevertheless, administrations still plan to make efforts to support those foreign-spouses, mostly foreign wives in this case, by organizing language lessons and some others. Also for their children, administrations plan to give them health and child care to include in the society. Moreover, the administrations have targeted to build "multicultural community" for those foreign-spouses to live independently in this society.
