Research Abstract |
IN THIS STUDY, SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL FEATURES OF WATER QUALITY IN THE ARIAKE SEA WERE GRASPED WITH RESPECT TO SEVERAL WATER QUALITY INDICES IN THE BAY BY CLASSIFICATION OF OBSERVED DATA BEFORE AND ADDITIONAL DATA BY THIS STUDIE'S 'INVESTIGATOR. MOREOVER, THE INVESTIGATOR CONTINUED TO CONSTRUCT THE ALGORITHMS FOR QUANTITATIVE ESTIMATION OF WATER QUALITY INDICES FROM SATELLITE IMAGES. IN THE PERIOD OF 2001, THE INVESTIGATOR 'INTRODUCED SENSOR PROBES, THAT IS, A MULTI-ITEM WATER QUALITY MONITORING SYSTEM AND CLOROTEC TO UNDERSTAND TEMPORAL FLUCTUATION CHARACTERISTICS AND SPATIAL FEATURES OF WATER QUALITY INDICES, SUCH AS CHLOROPHYLL, pH, DO, SALINITY, ETC. SYNCHRONOUS FIELD OBSERVATIONS WITH SATELLITE'S IMAGE CAPTURE WERE ALSO, EXECUTED EVERY MONTH. THE DATA OBTAINED BEFORE AND ADDITIONAL DATA OBSERVED BY THE INVESTIGATOR WERE USED TO DEVELOP THE ALGORITHM FOR 'ESTIMATING WATER QUALITY. THEN IT BECAME POSSIBLE TO RETRIEVE THE WATER QUALITY DISTRIBUTION MAP FROM THE SATELLITE IMAGES TO SOME EXTENT. IN THE PERIOD OF 2002, A LONG TERM OBSERVATION WAS EXECUTED BY USING CLOROTEC AT THE OBSERVATION TOWER IN THE ARIAKE SEA FROM AUTUMN TO SPRING IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE FLUCTUATION FEATURE OF WATER QUALITY. MOREOVER, THE DATA OBTAINED BY PREFECTURES ALONG THIS BAY WERE VISUALIZED BY GIS SOFTWARE SO THAT SEASONAL AND SPATIAL FEATURES OF WATER QUALITY IN THE ARIAKE SEA COULD BE CONSIDERED. IN THE PERIOD OF 2003, ATMOSPHERIC CORRECTION FOR SATELLITE IMAGES WAS RECONSIDERED AND THE ESTIMATION. ALGORITHM WAS VERIFIED AGAIN. AS A RESULT, ACCURACY OF THE ALGORITHM COULD BE INCREASED.
