Research Abstract |
We have developed the ELISA method for the measurement of serum apolipoprotein (apo) B-48, which is expressed exclusively in the intestines in humans. The novel method indicates that the serum levels of apo B48 were increased with patients with type I, III, V hyperlipidemia. In addition, it has been found that CD36 deficiency, which is relatively frequent in the Japanese population and associated with insulin resistance, had higher levels of apo B48 after the oral fat loading test. These data indicated that the above disorders may have the impaired metabolism of small intestine-derived lipids. The increased levels of apo B48 might be related to the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in patients with the above dysllpidemia and hyperlipidemia.
