Research Abstract |
1. Measurement of angiogenic factors The plasma levels of the VEGF, bFGF, PDGF-AB, and PDGF-BB (peripheral blood and sinus blood sample) were determined using ELISA kits in 9 patients with intracranial dural AV fistulas. The plasma VEGF and bFGF values were within normal level in all patients. The plasma PDGF-AB and BB levels were high in 4, and 6 patients, respectively. 2. Immunohistological stein of the cadaveric dura mater Immunohistological staining of the cadaveric dura mater was not available due to the destruction of the cell structure. 3. Immunohistological staining of the angiogenic factors and their receptors in the involved dura mater Immunohistological staining of tie-2, FGFR-1〜2, FGFR-4, PDGF-A, PDGF-B, PDGFR-α, PDGFR-β, VEGF, VEGFR-1〜3 were examined in 3 specimens with dural AV fistula. Tie-2, PDGF-α, VEGF, VEGFR-3 (Flt-4) were positive in the arterial wall in the dura mater. All factors examined were positive in the endothelial layer of the dural sinus. None of these factors were positive in the brain tissue adjacent the AV fistula. 4. Antibody and Immunohistological staining of the Chlamydia pneumoniae The serum levels of IgG or IgA were high in 4 of 7 patients with dural AV fistula. This positive rate did not differ from the normal control group. The Chlamydia p. was not immunohistologically detected in one specimen examined.
