Outline of Annual Research Achievements

1998年7月17日にパプアニューギニアで発生したM7の地震に伴う津波は,ニューギニア島北岸のシサノラグーン付近で2000名を超える死者をだした.津波高さが10mを超えるのはわずか20 km程度に限られており,地震の断層運動のみでなく,2次的な津波波源(海底地すべりなど)が想定されてきた.これまでのモデリングでは津波の高さ分布しか用いられてこなかったが,波源近傍(距離600~1500 km)で記録された津波波形を解析し,断層運動による津波(卓越周期6~20分)と海底地すべりによる津波(卓越周期2-4分で地震の約12-17分後に発生)とに分離することに成功した.
2015年3月と5月にパプアニューギニアで発生したMw 7.5の地震について,遠地実体波と津波から断層面上のすべり分布を推定した.異なる破壊伝播速度を仮定した地震波解析から推定したすべり分布について海底地殻変動・津波波形を計算して,記録された津波波形と比較すると,破壊伝播速度1.75 km/sが最適であることがわかった.
北米カリフォルニア沖に展開された海底水圧計の観測網で記録された2012年Haida Gwaii津波を解析し,相対式海底水圧計の感度を推定した.
1945年にマカラン沈み込み帯で発生した地震(M 8.0 - 8.3)について,イラン沿岸で局地的な津波高さ(12-15m)を説明するために,先に提唱した断層モデルに加えて,分岐断層・遅れ破壊・海底地すべりモデルを検討した結果,二次的な津波発生源として,海底地すべりが最も適切であることがわかった.
