Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究課題「テラヘルツ帯円偏光二色性分光法による水和状態のタンパク質および液晶の動態研究」では、水和状態のタンパク質のテラヘルツ帯円偏光二色性分光を行い、タンパク質のテラヘルツ(THz)帯の固有振動モードやゆらぎなどの動態研究を行うことが最終的な目標である。水和状態のタンパク質のテラヘルツ帯円偏光二色性分光を行うためには、まずそのための装置開発が必要である。そこで、本研究では円偏光二色性分光を広い周波数帯 (数10GHz~5THz)で行うため、偏光測定を高速・広帯域・高感度で行うためのテラヘルツ時間領域分光システム(THz-TDS)の開発に取り組んだ。まず広帯域THz波発生素子として非線形光学結晶のLiNbO3を用いた素子を開発した。また広帯域THz波検出用の素子として、金属導波路構造を利用した光伝導アンテナ素子を開発した。これらの素子とWire-Grid型THz波偏光子を組み合わせ、4THzまでの周波数帯で、偏光敏感な高感度THz-TDS装置の構築を行った。また溶液系での緩和モードを測定するため数10GHz~数100GHzの低周波数帯での測定を目的としたTHz-TDSシステムの開発に取り組んだ。高出力が得られる新しいTHz波発生素子の開発のために、薄膜太陽電池の材料として知られるCu2ZnSnSe4薄膜からのTHz波発生の研究にも取り組んだ(Z. Zhao博士らとの共著論文として成果発表)。偏光敏感なTHz-TDSには従来Wire-Grid偏光子を用いた測定が行われているが、この場合、2つの偏光成分の測定のために2回測定を行う必要があり、またWire-Grid偏光子性能による制限もあった。そこでTHz波の偏光状態を測定できる多極(4極)の光伝導アンテナ素子とその偏光応答行列を用いて、Wire-Grid偏光子無しで、正確にTHz波の偏光状態を測定できる手法を開発した(論文投稿中)。
