Outline of Annual Research Achievements

星間空間に広く観測される一連の赤外線輝線バンド(以下UIRバンド)は、多環式芳香族炭化水素(以下PAH)の構造を持つ物質に起因するものと考えられているが、具体的な物質については、今日に至るまで明確な同定がなされていない。UIRバンドは遠方銀河でも検出されており、キャリアは宇宙の炭素原子の10-20%を担い、星間ガスの加熱を通じ、星間空間の物理・化学過程に大きく影響を与えていると考えられている。従って、その正体を明確につきとめることは、宇宙空間における炭素質物質の進化を理解する上で、現在の天文学の主要課題の一つである。またUIRバンドは複数からなり、プロファイルは複雑な構造を示す。バンドの強度比、中心波長の値は、キャリアの構造・物理状態を反映していると考えられるため、キャリアを明確に規定できれば、UIRバンドを放射している遠方の天体の性質の研究にも大きな寄与が期待される。このような背景のもと、星間空間におけるPAHの形態の分布、その環境による変化を明らかにすることを目的とし、特にAKARI衛星により取得された大量の銀河面および系外銀河の近赤外線分光データの詳細な解析を進めた。昨年度は、AKARIにより取得された近赤外線スペクトルの解析を行い、PAHの構造と密接に関係する3.3ミクロンバンドが少なくとも3.28ミクロンと3.30ミクロンの2成分で説明できることを示した。今年度はこの解析を拡張し、3.4-3.5ミクロン帯の構造を調べ、4つの成分で観測をよく説明できることを明らかにした。これらの成分はそれぞれメチル基、メチレン基の対称、非対称振動に対応すると解釈される。また、3.28ミクロンと3.41ミクロンの強度に良い相関があることが分かった。この結果はベイサイトとメチレン基との相関を示唆し、星間空間に存在するPAHの構造、生成についての知見を得る手がかりが得られた
