Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Starting from the previously obtained theoretical analysis, field researches for collect all the most important data on the preservation condition of the selected study cases have continued. The most important of trips have been the visit to the internal buildings of Gunkanjima in June 2015. Sketches and photographic surveys were fundamental together with interviews to local inhabitants of the surroundings. The creation of a complete database in English has been used for a comparison with existing not academic Japanese databases and the results were presented at the 4th International Conference (Izmir, Turkey, May 2015).
Once finished the field research it became again necessary to collect a final
bibliography on Western examples of ruins reuse and reconnection with urban environment to implement the comparison scheme within the two different approaches.
One of the main aspects of the comparison have been the analysis of the influence that ruin study had in human perception of architectural space and why Japanese culture approached in a so different way to this topic. In the last stage of the research I proposed different solutions that might fix critical points and questions in the current debate, proposing concrete reappropriation hypotheses. These proposals were presented at the International Conference EAAC 2015 (Gwangju, South Korea, November 2015) and will be further developed in other researches. All the final data will be possibly collected in a single publication or a book to be published in both Europe and Japan.
