Research Abstract

今年度は、主に放射光を用いた焦点位置変調球面収差除去法による高分解能化に関する実験を行った。具体的にはイタリアのELETTRA放射光施設において、タングステン上に成長させた金からの内殻光電子を結像し、焦点位置変調球面収差除去法を適用した。その結果、従来と比較して、コントラストアパーチャのサイズを大きくしても分解能の劣化が起こらないことを示すことができた。これに付随して、コントラストアパーチャを大きくしたことにより、取り込み角が大きくなったため、信号強度が大きくなった。このようにして、焦点位置変調球面収差除去法が、光電子顕微鏡において有効であることが立証された。
更なる高分解能化に関しては、対物レンズの収差以外の要因がいくつかあることが明らかと成ってきた。これは、高分解能測定を行った結果、初めて明らかになったものである。その一つとして、微弱な光電子顕微鏡像を増幅して映し出すためのマイクロチャンネルプレートおよび蛍光スクリーンが挙げられる。チャンネルプレートでの増幅過程における電子の広がり、および蛍光スクリーンでの蛍光のにじみにより、空間分解能が劣化するというものであり、光電子顕微鏡像の観察における本質的な問題を含んでいる。これまで、こうした問題は指摘されてこなかったが、装置の分解能を評価する上で、非常に大きな影響を及ぼすことがわかった。これ以外にもいくつもの要因が明らかとなってきており、今後さらに検討を行っていく必要があると考えている。
