Outline of Annual Research Achievements

①観測を行ったアリューシャン渦の構造とその時間変化について記述し、平成28日3月に発表した論文の内容を示す。西部亜寒帯循環(WSG)域に存在した渦の中冷水の最低水温がアラスカンストリーム(AS)域に存在した渦よりも低かった。この水温差は冬期の冷却と春期加熱期の渦周辺水の影響に起因すると考えられた。渦解像モデルを用いた粒子輸送実験によると、WSG 域に存在した渦は春季加熱期においても周辺の冷水の巻き込みにより中冷水を冷却されることを示唆した。中暖水の水温は渦間で差は無かった。渦がAS域からWSG域の伝播において、中冷水は時間の経過とともに変質するが、中暖水は形成時の性質を維持することを示した。
②低次生産が高い春季から秋季にかけての渦の一次生産への影響に関する成果を示す。先行研究によってアリューシャン列島南岸で形成された渦の存在が確認されたAS域からWSG域までの範囲を対象域とし、表面 CHL、水温、一次生産量(NPP)と海面高度偏差(SLA)の偏差を比較した。春季及び秋季のSLAの変動があった列島南岸からWSG域までの範囲で一次生産に変動があったため、渦がWSG域にあると生物生産が高くなることを示唆した。2010年7月に観測した渦の変動を見ると、AS域を移動した冬季は水温が低く、一次生産も低かった。夏季の水温上昇により CHLは7～9月まで上昇した。秋季の水温の低下によって、一次生産は減少し、秋季のCHLは渦内で高かった。秋季の他の渦内もCHLが渦外よりも高く、対象域に渦が存在すると、一次生産が高くなることを示した。
③沿岸水の影響を受けない外洋域での渦の生物生産への影響を生態系モデルを用いて評価したところ、外洋域に存在する渦内で生物生産が高くなることが示唆された。渦の中冷水・中暖水は表面水に比べると、列島南岸の形成時に巻き込んだ沿岸水を維持しながら、WSG 域に達するためと考えられる。
