八重山地方におけるウミガメ類の行動圏に基づく保全に関する研究

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、昨年度までに引き続いて沖縄県八重山地方の石垣島にて7月、8月にアオウミガメの産卵調査を実施した。しかしながら、大型の台風が到来したこともあり、調査期間中の産卵数が少なかった。そのため、石垣島において目的とする産卵個体からの行動計測は実施できなかった。
一方で、八重山地方との回遊経路上あるいは遺伝的なつながりが示唆されているマレーシアのウミガメ類に対して、行動計測と遺伝的組成の解明に取り組んだ。マレーシアのウミガメ類についての遺伝的組成の解析から、出生地付近への回帰性が示唆された。一方で、10年規模の時間的なスケールでの遺伝的組成の変動は認められなかった。明らかになったミトコンドリアDNAの系統の地理的分布から、八重山地方を含む太平洋域のウミガメ類個体群の動態が種間で異なっていることが示唆された。行動計測においては、加速度の記録できる小型の記録計（データロガー）をアオウミガメ産卵個体に取り付け、産卵と産卵の間の期間の行動を調査した。その結果、マレーシアのアオウミガメは比較的休息を多くとっていると推定された。石垣島でのこれまでの行動計測との比較から、産卵と産卵の間の期間のアオウミガメの行動について、地域間での違いがみられることが示唆された。
以上のように、八重山地方のアオウミガメと他の太平洋・東南アジアとのつながりについて研究を進めることができた。その成果は、ウミガメ類の保全を考える上でも有用であると考えられる。
