Outline of Annual Research Achievements

平成27年度は，光共生系の光合成が，宿主である浮遊性有孔虫の殻体の炭素安定同位体比（δ13C）に与える影響を評価すべく，前年度までに得られたδ13Cデータ，クロロフィル蛍光データのとりまとめと統計学的解析を実施した．これまでに取得した浮遊性有孔虫の飼育個体の各々の成長段階における炭素固定速度（光合成量），宿主個体の体サイズから見積もった呼吸量，および殻体のδ13Cとの関係を重回帰分析によって評価した結果，光合成はδ13Cをより重くする効果，一方で呼吸はよりδ13Cを軽くする効果を持つことが示され，理論的に考えられている現象と整合的であった．このことは同時に，殻体のδ13Cの一個体内での成長履歴は，呼吸と光合成のバランスによって決定されることを示唆している．また，光合成と呼吸のバランスの重要性は，浮遊性有孔虫周囲の微小領域の炭酸系を，Zeebe et al. (1999)に基づく反応拡散モデルを用いて，様々な成長段階，呼吸量，光合成量において取りうる値をシミュレートすることによっても確認された．
また本研究によって，個体の成長の最末期に形成されたチャンバーは，特徴的に低いδ13Cを示す場合があることが明らかとなり，これが飼育環境下で観察・検出された共生藻の消化現象と同期して形成されていたことが確かめられた．すなわち，浮遊性有孔虫における藻類との共生関係の終焉（破綻）が，殻に記録されうる現象であることを，現生共生種の飼育データから初めて確かめることができた．これは，共生藻の消化現象という，非共生種には起こり得ない現象が殻に記録されることを実証したことになり，化石に残る新たな光共生指標を提示できたと言える．
