Outline of Annual Research Achievements

視覚について潜在的・顕在的情報処理の仕組みを解明することが目的であった．本年度では，これまで明らかにしてきた情動の顕在的認知に関する脳内情報処理機構から得られる神経信号をより詳細に解析し，当該脳内機構の空間的･処理時間的特性の理解を進めた．
(1)活動データの空間パタン解析(機能的MRI研究)
これまでに，紡錘状回と内側眼窩前頭皮質が，相貌の魅力度の判断に関係することを明らかにした．このうち後者は，魅力度が高い刺激が低い刺激に比較して高い活動を示した一方，前者では，魅力度の高/低の間に反応の差が認められなかった．しかし，紡錘状回をふくむ感覚皮質が高次認知や判断の機能も担っている可能性が示唆されている．そこで，紡錘状回の神経信号を詳細なパタン解析によって検討し，魅力度の判断における役割を調べた．解析の結果，紡錘状回も魅力度の高い刺激には特有の空間的活動パタンを示すことがわかった．情動的価値判断に，高次の脳領域だけでなく，感覚皮質も関与することを示した．
(2)活動データの潜時解析(脳磁図研究)
次に，脳磁図を用いて紡錘状回と内側眼窩前頭皮質の活動時間を調べた．脳内情報処理の理解には，その時間的遷移を調べることも不可欠である．前頭皮質の活動はノイズが多いが，適切な帯域フィルターと，ノイズに頑健な電流源推定法によって解決した．実験の結果，紡錘状回が前頭皮質に先行して賦活すること，内側眼窩前頭皮質が従来の報告よりも早い潜時で活動をはじめることがわかった．情動や価値の判断に関する脳内機構の働きが，従来考えられてきたものより早く生じることを示唆している．
(1)と(2)から，視覚皮質が従来考えられてきた機能に加えて，情動や価値に対しても反応し，さらに機能的結合をとおして内側眼窩前頭皮質の早い潜時での活動と結びつき，情動や価値の認知･判断に関する脳内情報処理機構を構成している可能性を示した．
