前近代イスタンブルの都市空間に関する研究－街区とその住民構成に注目して

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度はオスマン朝の首都イスタンブルの都市構造の分析を行い、同時に都市インフラの代表例としてモスク建築の意義を考察した。
征服直後から精力的に推進されたイスタンブルの再開発についてはモニュメント建設の観点から論じられることが多かった。しかし公の建設活動の詳細が明らかとされる一方で、一般街区でどのように再建が進捗したかについては依然不明な点が多い。
以上の課題を解決するため、1455年のイスタンブル検地台帳の分析をおこなった。ここから、史料中に登場する借地料の徴収対象となる街区のほとんどは市域西端の城壁あるいは金角湾沿いの周縁地域に位置していたことが判明した。有力者にはイスタンブル中心部の土地が下賜されて自発的な開発が推奨される一方で、市内周縁部の荒廃地の所有権はスルタンに留め置かれる二極構造をよみとることができた。
またモスクの建築空間の分析も行った。都市開発の核となるモスクはスルタンのみならず政府高官や商人など、幅広い社会階層の寄進によって付属施設とともに供給されていた。モスクの平面の分析より、寄進者を空間的に明示する上で重要だったのが回廊で囲まれた中庭の有無で、当初スルタンにのみ許されていたものだったことが明らかとされた。一方、一般寄進者が自らのモスクに「中庭」を付属させてスルタンのモスクを模すことも公然と行われていたが、これはスルタンのモスクの中庭とは性格が異なるものであることは明示されていた。
しかし16世紀末になると、オスマン朝の体制変化にともなってこのようなデザイン規制自体が崩壊していったことも明らかとなった。権力を掌握した皇太后や重臣が建設させたモスクにはスルタンのモスク同様の中庭が付属しており、かつてのように一定度の配慮がなされることはなくなった。これは権力構造の変革が、都市インフラの代表であるモスク建築の空間の枠組みに大きな変更を許した興味深い事例である。
