Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、次世代エレクトロニクス・スピントロにクス材料として注目されるグラフェンについて応用の可能性を広げることを目指し、「電子構造を制御したグラフェンの創製法の探索」を目標とし研究に取り組んだ。具体的には、これまでの結晶方位を制御した単層グラフェンの合成の成果を活かし、長周期構造を与えるCu(111)面上でのグラフェンの成長条件の探索、および積層角度を制御した二層グラフェン(twisted bilayer graphene, tBLG)の作製と評価を行った。
長周期構造の制御にはグラフェンのCu(111)面に対する配向に加え、成長速度と成長圧力のコントロールが重要であることが分かった。
tBLGについては、方位が一方向にそろった単層グラフェンを合成しそれらを転写によって重ね合わせることによって、±1°の精度で人工的に積層角度を制御しtBLGを得ることに成功した。さらにCu薄膜上にtBLGを創製し、Nano-ARPESによるバンド構造の評価を行った結果、二つのDirac coneが重なり、また相互作用によって新たなバンドを形成していることが観察された。これらの結果は、今後のグラフェンデバイスの発展に重要な新しい知見であると考えられる。
また、原子層厚さかつ機械的にフレキシブルなデバイスデバイスの作製に向けた検討として、Cu箔上にCVD成長したグラフェンをSiO2/Si基板に転写しMOCVD法と組み合わせることによって、面内ヘテロ構造を持つグラフェン-二硫化モリブデン(MoS2)の合成を実現した。
これらの研究は、海外渡航制度を利用し、主にアメリカ合衆国コーネル大学化学科に滞在して共同研究を行い、より多角的に検討を進めることができたためと考えられる。
