Outline of Annual Research Achievements

私の研究対象は、我々の銀河系内に2000以上も観測されているパルサーと呼ばれる天体である。パルサーは強磁場を持ち高速で回転している中性子星と考えられている。その内でも大きな回転光度を持つパルサーは、その周りに大きく広がったパルサー星雲と呼ばれる天体を形成している。つまり、パルサーからはパルサー星雲の構成物質とされている相対論的磁化プラズマ、パルサー風、が供給されている。パルサーはほとんどの回転エネルギーをパルサー風として放出しているが、どのように回転エネルギーをパルサー風に変換しているのかは理解されていない。本研究の研究目的はそのパルサー風の形成機構を理解することであり、特にまだ謎の多いパルサー風の物理状態を観測的に決定するという手法を取っている。
我々は過去の研究で、誘導コンプトン散乱という物理過程を用いて、パルサー風の粒子数に新たに観測的な制限を与えた。この誘導コンプトン散乱という物理過程に注目した研究を去年から行ってきた。誘導コンプトン散乱は、電磁放射の輝度温度が電子の静止質量エネルギーを上回るような高輝度放射と電子の非線形相互作用である。我々はこの物理現象の非線形段階の発展を記述する方程式の定式化を行い、論文を発表した。この研究では簡単のために高輝度の放射が等方的な場合を考えたが、現実には高輝度の放射は指向性を持つことが普通である。これはパルサーからの放射の場合も同様であると考えられている。本年度、我々は非等方な高輝度放射場に対する定式化に拡張を行った。その研究内容について現在論文を執筆中である。加えて、本年度から行っている大阪大学レーザーエネルギー学研究センターの共同利用・共同研究において、誘導コンプトン散乱の実験に向けて同センターの研究者との議論を進めている。次年度も同センターの共同利用・共同研究は継続申請を行っている。
