Outline of Annual Research Achievements

古代インドの祭式文献群であるヴェーダ文献（BC1200年～）のうち、最古層の散文資料を含むマイトラーヤニー・サンヒター（MS; 全4巻）が研究対象である。研究課題は、同文献の未発表写本を読解し校訂本を作成することと、同文献の現代語訳の作成である。
MSは膨大な文献であり、研究成果はいくつかの部分に分けて出版する必要があるが、その分け方が、文献の成立や内容に合致しないといけない。言語層及び内容の研究から、H26年度末に、最も合理的と考えられる７つの区分を提案し、成果出版の具体的計画を立てた。本年度はその計画に従い、I巻4-11章の写本校訂をおおむね完成させた。読解した写本は10本である。
この校訂本の序文として、既存のものも含め10数本ある写本の、写本同士の関係と、写本に見られる音韻記述から推察される伝承の過程について記す。写本に見られるイレギュラーな音韻記述の考察の結果、写本は主に口頭による伝承（テキストの読み上げ）に拠っているとの認識に至っている。また、各々の写本が、複数の写本をベースにして作成された過程も明らかになってきた。現代語訳は、難語彙の慎重な解釈を積み重ねつつ進めている。
以上の基礎研究を基に、MS成立の問題へと研究を展開している。具体的な研究手法は、特徴的な言語の用法のMSの中での分布を調べ、その現象の偏りから言語層を浮き彫りにするというものであり、文献の成立が非常に多層的であったことが明らかになりつつある。そのような中、16th World Sanskrit Conferenceの特別部会、「ヴェーダ文献資料に見られるvratya文化」への参加をきっかけに、MSにおける異文化要素についてMSにおける分布を調べたところ、言語層の分解により、特殊な言語的用法が多いと評価していた部分との一致が見られた。このことにより、中心的ヴェーダ文化を担うグループとは異なった言語層を持つ異文化集団の存在がより実証的に明らかになった。
