Research Abstract

In order to utilize natural resources, and to mitigate environmental effect, demand side management is drawing attention. With Demand Side Management, it is expected that the energy conservation in electrical energy supply system can be achieved. It is also expected that equipment investment can be reduced.
In this research project, what a future demand side management system should be is discussed. The information technologies should be utilized to fulfill each customer's request. The system must be compatible with the deregulated (or liberalized) electrical energy supply system.
First, "modeling of consumer behavior" and "menu for consumer to realize effective demand side management" are studied. Since the energy storage system is very expensive so far, it might be probable that improving supply reliability with energy storage system has negative effect on social welfare. Selective load curtailment is considered as a kind of multiple quality power supply.
Second, the real time demand side management, a combination of direct equipment control and indirect control with pricing, is studied. The effectiveness of the demand side management with bonus, which is considered as a kind of indirect control, is examined. Since a large number of consumers can participate in the demand side management with bonus, big effect can be expected. The effects of the proposed real time demand side management are as follows :
-Consumer utility is little reduced.
-Equipment investment in electric energy supply system is reduced.
-Social welfare is increased.
-CO2 emission can be reduced.
