Research Abstract |
The aim of this study is to develop the high performance wind power generator, which operates at the wide wind velocity from low to high velocity. As the rotary speed of windmill is very slow, a speed up gear is indispensable to improve the efficiency of the generator. The gear, however, causes the large noise and generator system becomes heavy. An Interior permanent magnet synchronous generator (called IPMSG) with multi-pole, which is proposed in this study, is able to operate in the wide wind speed range. As the proposed IPMSG, however, requires strong permanent magnets, then the large cogging torque comes out. This large cogging torque disturbs the smooth operation of the windmill at low wind velocity, and the windmill can not operate at the low wind velocity. As a result, the utilization factor of windmill goes down. In this study, the new multi-pole IPMSG with spoke magnets buried in the rotor is proposed. The cogging torque and torque ripple improvement of the proposed IPMSG is examined. The flux barrier of the proposed rotor is designed in an asymmetrical structure to improve the cogging torque. Moreover, every silicon steel plate, which has an asymmetrical flux barrier, is revolved with one pole pitch and laminated. As a result, the cogging torque is greatly improved compare with ordinary IPMSG.. The high harmonic components of the induced voltage reduced, too. Torque ripple, if this generator is used as the motor, is reduced to 1/20. The multi-pole IPMSG with spoke type magnets proposed is able to operate at very wide wind velocity. As the conversion wind power to the electric power at the low wind velocity is not large, the rate of operation of the wind power generation system is improved.
