Research Abstract |
This study has a purpose to develop a new method of renovation of the 20-40 years old, stereotyped public school RC buildings to remodel them with three points of improvement at the same time. Instead of monotonous long stratified building to make school building with seismic retrofitting fitting to creative and spontaneous education, getting environmentally conscious perfonnance to compose comfortable situation is researched. 1)The direction as goal of the environment, building, and spatial systems to be adequate to the new education are studied. Spatial system with more diverse territories and activated space for communication and spaces for self-development is pointed as the goal for new creative education after the studies of the spatial development. 2)Existing school buildings are evaluated. Newly proposed spatial system such as subject department system and the relation to the spatial plan are examined. Several points on the meanings of the outdoor environment related to the school are argued. 3)It is found that typical existing school buildings could be reformed and remodeled to new goals, while adding new floors and rearranging the partitions, conserving and revitalizing the grown vegetation of the school garden. 3-1 We can redesign old typed plan to create new educational spaces. 3-2 We developed the method of seismic retrofitting with planning-flexibility by connecting steel members with the existing RC frame, employing special braces or external steel frames. 3-3 While attaching solar-cells or cool-roof devices on the roof, developing double-skinned window units with eaves, light shelves and night ventilation devices, it is proved to get better environment by the passive method of less energy consumption. Getting knowledge above, we can say that design development as the basic purpose of this study is succeeded.
