Research Abstract |
1) The main purpose of this research project was to show, by malting of full use of the Wittgenstein's Nachlass Data- Base (Wittgenstein Archives at Bergen and Oxford University Press, completed in 2000), the great of the Nachlass for Wittgenstein studies. Positive results are as follows : 2) The editing of Remarks on the Foundations of Mathematics was proven to be arbitrary after detailed scrutiny. One has to peruse the firsthand material in order to discuss Wittgenstein's philosophy of mathematics. This result was printed in the Proceedings of the 24^<th> International Wittgenstein Symposium. 3) The most popular and attractive theme in On Certainty pertaining to the concept World-Picture' was revisited. My assessment was generally deflationary. Wittgenstein's remarks contain some naive mistakes in science, and the oft-used scheme `Wittgenstein versus Quire' is off the point from the perspective of Wittgenstein studies. 4) The remarks containing `metalogical' were enumerated, and, on the basis of that, Hilmy's bold claim was critically discussed. 5) The roots of the remarks in TS 233 were identified, and, on the basis of that, the editing of Zettel was critically discussed. 6) The correlation lists of the remarks in TS 228 and those in TS 233 were composed. They are printed in the Appendix in the main report.
