THE PANEL STUDY SEEKS TO ASCERTAIN THE DETERMINANTS OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND TO EXPLORE THE ATTITUDES TOWARD CAREER DEVELOPMENT AMONG YOUNG MIN AND WOMEN. DATA WERE COLLECTED FROM A PANEL STUDY OVER THE FOUR-YEAR PERIOD OF 2000-2004 (THREE MAIL SURVEYS). THE SAMPLE CONSISTS OF THE GRADUATES IN ECONOMICS, LAW, AND LITERATURE OF A UNIVERSITY IN 2000. THE VARIABLES ARE LIFE COURSE, CAREER CHOICE, ORGANIZATIONAL AND JOB COMMITMENT, JOB SATISFACTION, EGALITARIAN/TRADITIONAL GENDER ROLE ATTITUDES, ATTITUDES TOWARD MENTOR, JOB STRESS AND DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS. THE FIRST QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED FOR 883 SUBJECTS (RESPONSE RATE 54.7%), THE SECOND SURVEY FOR 274 SUBJECTS (63.1%), AND THE THIRD SURVEY FOR 173 SUBJECTS (86.2%). THE RESULTS OF MULTIPLE REGRESSION ANALYSES, FACTOR ANALYSES, AND OTHER ANALYSES REVEALED THE FOLLOWINGS : (1)THERE IS VERY LITTLE GENDER DIFFERENCES IN THE ATTITUDES TOWARD CAREER DEVELOPMENT ; (2)ATTITUDES TOWARD CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONSIST OF THREE FACTORS, THAT IS, THE EMPHASES ON SELF-REALIZATION, ABILITY, AND PERSONAL LIFE ; (3)WOMEN HAVE MORE EGALITARIAN GENDER ROLE ATTITUDES THAN MEN ; (4)WOMEN WHO CONTINUE FULLTIME EMPLOYMENT WITH THE SAME ORGANIZATION FOR 4 YEARS HAD HIGER EGALITARIAN GENDER ROLE ATTITUDES AT THE FIRST SURVEY THAN THOSE WHO QUIT THE JOB DURING THE STUDY ; AND (5)MEN TEND TO BE PROMOTION-ORIENTED, BUT WOMEN DO NOT.
