1)Material field research
I investigated, and collected materials owned by the Shanghai Library, Shanghai Danganguan, Nanjing Dier Lishi Danganguan, National Library, China Film Center, Shandong Library etc. Through the investigation, I obtained valuable cinematic materials, including 《Xiandai Dianying》, 《Yingxi Shenghuo》, 《Huabei Yinghua》, 《Dianying Huabao》, that are indispensable for the research of the cinemas in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Jinan, Qingdao, and the Tohoku region (Manchuria)
2)Literature purchased
《The Minutes of Shanghai Municipal Council》, 《Dianying Bao》, 《Dianying Xinwen》, 《Dianyingjiancha Weiyuanhui Gongbao》, 《Shidai Dianying》, 《Zhongguo Dianying》, 《Xin Yingtan》, 《Qingqing Dianying》, 《Yingxi Nianjian》 and Chinese cinema DVDs.
3)Reading research papers
《Liu Naou's "Yongyuan de Weixiao"》 in the Contemporary China Society of Japan ; 《the Sino Japanese war and Chinese cinema》 in the China Society of Osaka City University 《A study of "The Daily Cinema"》 in the Shanghai's history society 《Postwar Shanghai's Cinema》 in the Chinese Literary Society; 《"The Daily Cinema" and Its Editor Yao Sufeng》 in Huadong Shifan University of China.
4)Others
I have exchanged information with producers, actors, actresses, and film critics. I asked Mr. Zhang Jiandong, Assistant Chief of the Director Department, Beijing Dianying University, some questions concerning the situation of film production in China and his works in these years.
