Research Abstract |
Translation is a process of cross-cultural communication, whose end product is a text which is capable of functioning appropriately in specific situations and contexts of use. In translation studies some determinants of communication process which are also important for the translation process are now clear, for example Text-type, purpose, Medium, Receptor. On the base of results of translation studies this research proposed a method for analysis and evaluation of translation, applied this method to actual examples and compared source texts and target texts of Japanese literature translations. The comparison shows many cases which go across actual linguistic and cultural barriers between Japan and Germany. This research contains also the report on reception of Japanese literature by German translation. I visited the National Library in Berlin and a City Library of Berlin, in order to investigate, which Japanese literary works in German translation are owned by libraries in Berlin and how often these books are read.
