| Research Abstract |
In this project, a method of three-dimensional transient electromagnetic field analysis was established to develop an advanced evaluation method of pulsed eddy current testing, and transient electromagnetic phenomena in pulsed eddy current testing were clarified. By using these results, guidelines for the evaluation of defects in pulsed eddy current test-ing were obtained. Furthermore, a reconstruction method of defects using a database was developed.
First, an edge-element finite element method for transient electromagnetic field analysis was established and a visualization program for the calculated results of the edge-element finite element method. The TEAM Workshop Problem 27 was chosen as a benchmark problem to evaluate the developed code of the edge-element finite element method. The validity and accuracy of the developed code were confirmed by the calculated results of the benchmark problem.

ified in order to develop and improve the scanning method of eddy current testing probe and the signal processing method of detected signals. As a results, it was clarified that the signal processing method which paid attention to spatial distribution and the time change of detected signal was necessary.
A remote field eddy current testing using pulsed excitation for tubular products made of magnetic and conducting material was analyzed and the electromagnetic phenomena was also clarified. As a results, the relations between defect size and amplitude of detected signal and between defect size and delayed time of detected signal were obtained, and guidelines for the waveform determination of pulse excitation were obtained.
Furthermore, a database using multidimensional defect-parameter space, in which a vector of defect signals was de-fined at measuring points, was constructed.
