Research Abstract

1.Iminunohistochemical studies on heine oxigenase-l(HO-1)Immunostaining for H0-1, one of the heat shock protein family, labelled neurocytes and astrocytes in cases of head injury, whereas it did not label those cells in control cases. Therefore, it is suggested that imniunostaining for HO-1 should be useful for diagnosing head injury.
2.Immunohistochemical studies on angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) : Immunostaining for ACE, which has been reported to label unstable plaques of arteriosclerosis, was tested using sections from coronary arteries in cases of ischemic heart diseases. In all cases of acute myocardial infarction, staining for ACE labelled cells in plaques of arteriosclerosis. Therefore, it is suggested that immunostaining for ACE should be useful for detection of unstable plaques in cerebral arteries in cases of intrinsic cerebral hemorrhage.
3.Differential diagnosis of intrinsic or traumatic cerebral heniatoma Sections from cerebrum in 5 traumatic and 5 intrinsic cases of cerebral hematoma.Necrosis of cerebral arteries were detected in 2 intrinsic cases by Victria Blue staining, whereas did not in traumatic cases.Immunostaining for amyloid precursor protein(APP)and neuron-specific enolase(NSE)labelled varicose axons and axonal bulb in 3 traumatic cases. However, it also labelled axonal bulb in 1 intrinsic case with cerebral herniation.Immunostaining for ACE labelled cells in plaques of arteriosclerosis in 2 intrinsic cases. However, it also labelled cells in 1 intrinsic case with cerebral hematoma of an old woman.Immunostaining for exitatory amino acid transporter 2(EAAT2)and glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP)labelled various astorcytes, although no specific changes to intrinsic or traumatic cases were observed. It is suggested that both examinations of pathological changes of cerebral arteries and examinations of axonal changes due to head injury should be necessary for differential dignosis of intrinsic or traumatic cerebral hematoma.
