Research Abstract |
We conducted fundamental research on the structure and the development of a broadband network education-based e-learning system on which can be used for higher education. in the ways as written below. (1)Research on Educational Methods and Learning Systems Using a Broadband Network We developed interactive and on-demand education-based e-learning system on a broadband network and administered a comprehensive system (prototype system) on a trial basis for hands-on learning experiences; including lectures, practical exercises, and participatory learning. We also examined and developed integrated educational materials for the aforesaid system, including images and videos, general outline and materials for lectures, pencil press, and the use of BBS. (2)Shooting Motion Pictures for Rich-Contents We shot motion pictures (materials for classes and cultural information) using a Digital Video in a research center studio, classrooms, and outside the campus, and prepared basic materials for rich contents. (3)evelopment of Educational Materials for Rich Contents We made videos of graduate school lectures conducted before 2001 for the purpose of provide remote students with on demand educational materials in the band suitable for broadband (500 Mbps) and realized the distribution of the contents. We also developed contents for classes by using materials which were shot by digital video from 2002 to 2003 so that they could be distributed on demand on broadband. We delivered the contents on broadband, including university LAN (1 Gbps), optical fiber, ADSL, etc. (4)Evaluation of the Trial Results and Improvement of the System We conducted a questionnaire survey of the students who took the course and their professors based on the outcome of this trial and from these results we pointed out the problems of the overall prototype system. Based on this evaluation, we developed an improved system.
